Test Centers

Some civil service positions require an applicant to take an exam at a test center.

Before scheduling an examination, you must first apply to a posting that requires a written exam.

If you meet eligibility requirements, you will be sent an email notification regarding how to schedule the exam at a test center. Written exams are administered at Prometric sites located throughout the Commonwealth. Information on locations, hours of operation, and scheduling or rescheduling an exam can be found at www.prometric.com/Pennsylvania.

Please note:  Applicants who do not report for scheduled in-person testing without a valid reason will not be permitted to take any in-person examinations for a period of six months from the date of the missed examination appointment. Repeated failures to appear for future examinations may result in being prohibited from taking in-person examinations for up to two years. Permissible reasons for not reporting for a scheduled in-person examination are provided below and will require supporting documentation to be considered.

  • death in the immediate family 
  • verifiable disabling transportation situation 
  • confirmed civil or public disturbance
  • court appearance or jury duty 
  • weather emergency
  • military duty 

Testing Accommodations

The Commonwealth realizes that some applicants with disabilities may require testing accommodations to enable them to perform to their full potential on their test. 

If you anticipate the need for a testing accommodation, you must complete a “Request for Testing Accommodation” form. Do not schedule your test until your accommodation is approved by the Office of Administration. Once approved, you will be given further instructions on how to schedule your appointment.

If you have previously submitted documentation to request the same or a similar accommodation for a civil service test, you do not need to submit another form. Please contact ra-cs-testadmin@pa.gov for assistance in scheduling any additional appointments. 

A variety of federal, state, and local agencies provide rehabilitation, advocacy, and referral services to individuals with disabilities, including the Pennsylvania Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR).
